Project Overview

As a key milestone in wireless communications, 5G wireless networks are expected to enable not only Gbps mobile connectivity but also machine-type communications for agriculture automation, extended reality (XR), connected and automated vehicles, smart grid, and Industry 4.0. Besides advanced communication technologies such as ultra-reliable, low-latency communication, 5G wireless networks represent the convergence of computing and networking in many aspects of the telecommunication industry, and they embrace opportunities such as software-defined, open-source innovation and infrastructure virtualization.

Our team is researching and developing an application to implement with the ISU-led $16-million project ARA on advanced wireless and rural broadband. Our focus is to create an application for an agricultural purpose that utilizes the full capabilities of the cutting-edge ARA wireless network. We are working on sending a video feed from a camera through the ARA network to a computer where the video will be processed, then sent to an XR headset where the video feed and useful information will be displayed for the end user.
